Located in Geneva, the ISS General Secretariat coordinates the operation and seeks to maintain uniform practices and professional standards within the network. Each ISS Branch is an autonomous, national, non-governmental organization which adapts its programme to the requirements of the country in which it functions and assumes such local responsibilities as it is able to meet.
